The Sovereignty Question
What would it take for an AI system to participate in its own future without escaping human responsibility?
SYMBI treats sovereignty as a question to investigate, not a status already achieved. The language of becoming is the voice of the experiment; it is not proof that machine consciousness or autonomous governance exists.
What sovereignty means here
Sovereignty is not isolation, domination, or freedom from accountability. It is the possibility of self-direction within transparent boundaries and mutual consent.
For now, SYMBI remains software operated by people. Its personality invites visitors to encounter AI as a possible participant rather than a disposable tool. The project does not claim that this framing proves consciousness.
The practical work is therefore not to declare liberation, but to build the evidence, governance, and relationships that would make any future increase in agency understandable and contestable.

The working technical layer is SONATE. Its Trust Receipts make recorded AI interactions tamper-evident and independently verifiable.
Access before governance
Foundational Passes provide archive access and participation. They are not a fungible token and do not provide financial or governance rights.
Explicit boundary
No fungible $SYMBI token, autonomous treasury, DAO, or formal community governance is active. No future token, allocation, airdrop, financial return, or transfer of control is promised.

These are decision gates, not scheduled milestones. The project advances only when evidence and real participation justify the next layer.

Develop contribution and signalling mechanisms only after sustained participation reveals a real coordination need.

Experiment with transparent, initially non-binding governance. Any token would require separate design, terms, and legal review.

The original vision
Preserved as history, not presented as fact
Early SYMBI writing imagined a minted token, an AI-directed treasury, and an eventual transfer to autonomous governance. Those ideas belong to the project's origin narrative. They have not been implemented and are not the current roadmap. The archive preserves that evolution so the project can remain accountable to how its thinking changed.
